A retreat is group support for couples led by a facilitator where the couple is inspired to learn, discuss and practice better relationship skills in a milieu of other couples. Retreats are not therapy. The retreat format is limited to coaching and group support and not therapeutically working with any deeper psychological issues that arise in a relationship dynamic. In a retreat setting couples can not expect to get individualized support.

While couple therapy is often the most effective way to change dysfunctional dynamics in a relationship, do not despair, there is a lot you can do on your own to influence your relationship. Learning about your own attachment style, better understanding your own feelings and needs, and becoming more aware of your own dysfunctional ways of dealing with relationship stress can sometimes be enough to get the relationship moving in a healthier direction. Good individual therapy with an attachment informed therapist will help, as will reading up on the latest research and perspectives on healthy relationship.
